God Fearing Apparel,
Giving Used T-Shirts New life

In my capstone class senior year of college, we were tasked to create a product, market and sell it all while documenting the process. I immediately thought of doing oversized gym t-shirts since I was wearing them almost every day in college. I loved the idea of giving clothing a second chance so I chose to thrift blank t-shirts in a variation of colors and sizes and screen print them all myself rather than outsource. This took hours of sourcing, loads of washing, late nights printing and constant instagram engagement. Keep scrolling to see my proccess.

SKILLS

Apparel Design

Screen Printing

Social Media Marketing

Small Business Management

Phase 1:  Research, Design & Sourcing

In the initial stages, I attended a screen printing workshop to make sure it was possible for me to do. After I felt confident in starting, I went through a couple stages of designs that matched the gym rat aesthetic. Through many rounds of teacher and peer review, I landed on my design and sent it to a screen making shop. And my favorite part, shopping!

Phase 2:  Production and Marketing

Once I had my screen, ink, and clean t-shirts, I got to work. After finishing about twenty, I took photos of them all to post and sell on the "God Fearing Apparel" Instagram account.

Phase 3:  Final Product and Sales

I took some lifestyles in the studio to post on instagram alongside product shots. Customers DMed the account with the post of the shirt they wanted and I would put it on a hold until we could schedule an exchange. I ended up doing another batch of shopping, washing, and screen printing so that I could have a good amount to show and sell at my senior show. I sold every shirt by the end of the show and continue to wear my God Fearing Apparel t-shirt almost every week. This is one of my favorite projects I have ever done and hope that this inspires you to give clothes a new life. Watch my full process video below to learn more of the story.
